Riverview Kennels’ Vaccination Protocols

At Riverview Kennels, we have worked to create the safest and most humane environment possible. One component of that effort is our vaccination protocols. These protocols include which vaccinations we require of each cat and dog guest and what we do if an animal exhibits symptoms when in our care.

Dog Vaccinations

We require three up-to-date vaccinations for all of our canine guests: Rabies, Bordetella, and DHLPP. Rabies may be a one-year dosage or a three-year dosage. Bordetella and DHLPP are annual vaccines and must be updated every year.

Cat Vaccinations

Feline guests are required to have two up-to-date vaccinations: Rabies & FVRCP (feline distemper). Rabies, as with dogs, is a one-year dosage or a three-year dosage. FVRCP is usually a three-year vaccination.

Proof of Vaccination

We ask each of our pet owners to provide proof of vaccination before boarding with us, using our daycare facility, or before utilizing any of our spa services. These standards keep our facility safe for all guests.

Owners may email us vaccination records in advance (to office@riverviewkennels.com). This is the best and most effective method as it provides lead time in the case of any discrepancies or questions. Owners may also ask their veterinarian's office to email us the records they have on file.

Some owners prefer to bring in hard copies when they bring their animals for their stay. While this method is effective, there are instances where we are not able to board or care for an animal because its records are not up to date or the wrong vaccines have been given. "Fully vaccinated" does not always mean the same thing from office to office or state to state.

At the time of drop off, if the animal is exhibiting any signs of sickness, we may decline services in order to keep the sickness from spreading to other guests.

What Do You Do if an Animal Exhibits Symptoms?

While we work hard to prevent any animal from coming to our facility who might be carrying a sickness, unfortunately, incubation periods do not always cooperate with our desires. If an animal were exhibiting any symptoms we would contact the animal's veterinarian or the local veterinarian. We would discuss over the phone what we are experiencing and ask for any recommendations. When the vet's recommendation requires a visit to their office we are sure to contact the animal's owner in advance. At this point, we would work in concert with the veterinarian and the owners in order to get the care the animal needs. If indeed the diagnosis is an infectious disease we would then quarantine that animal with the support of the veterinarian's office.

What if My Animal is Exhibiting Symptoms After Staying at Your Facility?

We always appreciate getting phone calls after an animal stays with us if they are exhibiting any symptoms. We encourage owners to get the support they need from their veterinarian so that a proper diagnosis can be attained.

When it is clear that the incubation period matches the timeframe of an animal's stay we often initiate higher levels of cleaning protocols with a hydrogen peroxide cleaning product used daily. You can learn about our cleaning process, here.
